A shortish introduction to this blog for anyone a stopping by for the first time. I hope you like what you read and want to stick around. Do drop me a message and introduce yourselves please!

I'm a nearly 50 year old fat man who was active as a young man, liked his sport and outdoor activities and loves the idea of endurance adventure racing.

I've tried lots of different sports and am open to trying more, but badminton, triathlon and hiking are the ones that have stuck. Saying that, the barrier of my fitness has meant a degree of reluctance to get out on the bike and the pain and suffering of carrying my Clydesdale sized frame around the streets places a fairly hefty mental barrier in the way.

About 12 years ago a vowed to get fitter as our then 2 year old daughter deserved her dad around to support her. I did some interesting things in those years - marathons (London x 3 and Dublin), triathlons and endurance walking events. But, now nearly 50, I figure it's time to make the changes that have been needed for so long in my life before too much damage is done.

As it stands, the list of medication has increased recently with the addition of pills to mange high bloody blood pressure. I don't want that trend to continue and mean I cannot enjoy more challenges into the future.

Blogging doesn't come easy to me - I hope it develops into a regular habit of what I hope to be my record the final journey into fitness and fun.

So, that's why I'm here recording how and what I do to progress into that brave new world. Feel free to join me in the adventure.
